Carers UK, and people with ME (pwME)

20/12/2012

Carers UK, and people with ME (pwME)

The following was received on LocalME yesterday, and subsequently also permission to forward it was given… … … …

Hi all,

Yesterday I did an interview with ITV Wales for Carers UK to highlight the Text Santa programme on ITV on Friday 21/12 which aims to raise funds for 6 nominated charities.

Please help raise as much money as you can for Text Santa as Carers UK supports carers of pwme too.

This is the piece Carers UK have written up on their website about me and us. I will post the link to the tv interview when it becomes available.

Sylvia Penny, from the Wales Association of M.E. and CFS, talks to ITV Wales about what it’s like to be a full-time carer (two minute video):

Being a full-time carer
Sylvia Penny talks about being a full-time carer for her son David, who has dyspraxia and Asperger’s syndrome; and her daughter Michelle, who has severe M.E. She also cares for her elderly mum. Carers Wales says carers need to be able to talk to people who understand their situation, and access services that enable them to take time off.

A message from Ian Logan, our Chairman

1/12/2012

December 2012

A message from Ian Logan, our Chairman ... ... ...

Best wishes for Christmas, and the New Year, to you all.

I just want to update you all on the group’s situation.

We are still looking for a Secretary/Co-ordinator to replace Jill who stepped down at the AGM at the beginning of September.   We are grateful to Jill who has continued to email members with various news items during the last few months - Jill tells me she hopes someone will soon take over this role.

We are looking for more people to be involved in the group, including a Vice-Chair, people to fill the Area Contact Vacancies, and a Publicity/Media Contact.  Jill recently forwarded information concerning the press and library meeting announcements - let her know if you are able to help with this, and she will forward it again to you.

Our Area Group Contacts

The following gives our updated list of Area Contacts.  We have vacancies in some areas - are you able to help, or do you know anyone who can?

Bromsgrove                  Vacancy

Droitwich                      Stephen Woodfield - 01905 798671

Hagley                          Warwick Davis - 01384 892442

Evesham & Pershore    Vacancy

Malvern & Worcester    Ian Logan - 01886 888419

Redditch                       Jackie Elston - 01527 458840

Wyre Forest                  Audrey Hammond - 01562 822834

Meeting Venues

Kidderminster and Pershore

Our leaflet about the group with information about useful contacts and NHS services.

On our latest tri-fold leaflet.  You will notice that against both Kidderminster and Pershore it states - “Phone for venue location”.  This is because there will soon be changes taking place - when arrangements have been confirmed information will be on the group website.  The current situation is -

Pershore - There is a possibility that the rooms at the Town Hall may not be available for a few months whilst the library may be temporarily in the building.  We do not know as yet which months will be affected.  If you know a suitable venue that we could use, please get in touch with me - many thanks.

Kidderminster - We have heard that the room in the Library will be available in February, but not March onwards.  This is due to changes taking place in the library.  If you know a suitable venue that we could use, please get in touch with me, and/or Audrey Hammond (01562 822834) - many thanks.

Watch our website for uptodate information.

Meeting timings

On the attached leaflet you will see the meetings are for one hour and -  “(Timings can be extended if required at the time)”

If it is your intention to arrive at the meeting near the end of the hour, it would be helpful if you would try to phone the Area Contact beforehand  -  many thanks.

Best wishes to everyone for Christmas, and the New Year.
